We’ve known since December that Volvo was planning the debut of its all-new V40 at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Thanks to an inadvertent leak via Facebook earlier this month, we already got a good look as to how the new V40 would be styled.


Now, more images plus a new video have hit the Web, revealing the V40 from almost every angle and including a look at the interior for the first time.

Under the hood should be Volvo’s new-generation four-cylinder engine that we saw debut in the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid Concept. Displacing 2.0 liters, the engine should output close to 200 horsepower thanks to turbocharging and direct-injection technologies.

Unfortunately, as we reported a few months back, it isn’t likely that the new V40 will be U.S.-bound. In Volvo’s eyes, customers on these shores don’t buy hatchbacks or station wagons, instead favoring sedans, crossovers and SUVs. That’s a shame, since the V40 looks to be the right blend of style and comfort to appeal to a wide range of buyers.

While we may not get the V40, rumors are that Volvo is working on a crossover variant, to be called the XC40. Details are scarce, but expect the XC40 to carry similar lines to the V40 while offering a taller seating position and available all-wheel-drive.

    I take back what I said about Volvo after being sold to the Chinese. Since the takeover, the cars have been getting prettier and prettier and so far, owners I came across have no complain!

    @Countach, the S60 R-Design I drove earlier this year was one of the most surprising cars I've driven in a long time. I hated the automatic gearbox (no manual is available), but absolutely loved the rest of the car.

    FYI, my old man tested the XC60, X3 and Q5 and settled on the XC60 as the best of them all. he was astounded by its quality and punchy engine. I really like the way Volvo is designing its cars and this latest is down right sexy for a family wagon/hatch. I think though that they will be measured entirely on the next gen XC90. That is the model that will tell everyone if Volvo are really back in the big time with a range of cars that is onee of the best in the business. no wonder they are taking their time, they need to get it right again !

    @WizardsLore, the biggest mistake I see Volvo making here is taking too long to refresh existing products. Here's hoping they can shorten the cycle time on future models.

    @ Kurt, i agree to a point, but i would rather as a consumer wait for a further 6 months to a year for the new model to come out and they get it right than rush it through and get a car that is a lemon

    i would have to disagree...the new CRv is a monstrosity with a veritable growth on its hindquarters. This on the other hand is altogther quite sexy !
