If you're willing to forgive the fact that the Mercedes SLR McLaren at the heart of this story is tuned far beyond any stock Mercedes, the world now has a new Mercedes speed leader.  a fact we came to find out from .

As we reported late last year, the L4P SLR777 is a project between Platinum Motorsport, RENNtech, MACarbon, and Exotics Boutique, and essentially gets a Mansory Renovatio body kit and big output boost to 770 horsepower.

If you're after the nitty gritty, the tuned SLR also gets racing coilovers and shocks, a new exhaust system, a hydraulic system to adjust ride height, and an upgraded set of brakes. The car also rides on 20-inch Agetro M140 Monoblock wheels and features a custom interior with many a carbon upgrade. Drag Times reports that those Agtero wheels were wrapped in Hoosier racing slicks for its most recent track run.

The last time we saw the L4P SLR777, it was already being hailed the world's fastest Mercedes after hitting the quarter mile in 10.29 seconds at 134 mph.

Well, now it's back and it's broken its own record.

Earlier this week, the SLR777 ran the quarter mile in just 9.76 seconds at 140.8 mph at Florida's Palm Beach International Raceway. According to a post on Road Test TV, which was picked by World Car Fans, that epic run makes this the world's fastest Mercedes powered by a Mercedes engine, albeit an engine with all kinds of modifications. It also reportedly makes it the first Mercedes to ever achieve a 9-second quarter mile.

Perhaps more important to our readers than this rather specific world record is the fact that the action was caught on video for you to enjoy. Watch the L4P SLR777 best itself in the short clip below.
