2015 Infiniti electric luxury sedan teaser sketch

Infiniti has already confirmed that it will launch an electric luxury sedan based on Nissan Leaf underpinnings sometime in 2014, and released this teaser sketch along with the confirmation.

However, the automaker’s global communications chief Andy Palmer has revealed that an electric sports car is also under the spotlight.

Speaking with Autocar, Palmer said that Infiniti plans to show off a mid-engined electric sports car concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next March.

Expect it to share much in common with the 2011 Nissan Leaf Nismo RC prototype, which itself is a mid-engine electric sports car being used to collect data for the development of Nissan’s--and Infiniti’s--next generation electric cars.

Some bespoke elements found in the Leaf Nismo RC included a full carbon fiber tub, a rear-wheel drive layout, and an updated electric drivetrain rated at 107 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque.

Additionally, there’s a likely chance that Formula 1 leader Red Bull Racing will lend some of its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) technology for the Infiniti electric sports car.

If given the production green light it could be on sale by 2014, alongside the new Infiniti electric sedan.

Stay tuned for an update.
