Nissan Leaf Nismo RC electric race car shakedown testing

This video from a recent test session of the NISMO RC racing version of the Nissan Leaf shows what it can do in near-ideal conditions: warm, dry, and sunny. The last test session was damp, cool, and overcast, so the car should be a bit faster this time around.

To say it's a bit unsettling to see a race car running around a track with little more than the whine of the gears and the electric motor--both of which are overwhelmed at pit speeds by the sound of the brakes--is an understatement. At the same time, it's a bit of a glimpse of the likely future, and a huge contrast to the present.

The end result of the test session? One second per lap shaved from the previous time. Perhaps not as much as you might expect given the optimal conditions, but it is still in development, after all.
