Factory-built luxury security vehicles are, without doubt, members of one of the smallest segments anywhere. But with their rarity and exclusivity comes a certain cool factor, a factor enhanced by their capabilities.

Mercedes-Benz states outright that "The aim of the Guard models...is to protect the occupants from violent criminal acts." Not specific enough for you? How about some standards? The S600 Pullman Guard limousine, for example, guarantees VR6/7 protection. That means it offers protection from military-grade rifle fire, hand grenades, and explosives.

Not all of Mercedes' Guard line is so extensively protected, because not everyone needs to traverse a war zone or terrorist encampment. For those with more urban concerns, such as carjacking, civilian-caliber gun violence, and other more mundane mayhem, there are the VR4-level vehicles, including the E-Guard.
