Aston Martin Cygnet Launch Edition
Love it or loathe it but Aston Martin’s Cygnet
luxury minicar based on the
Toyota iQ is here to stay. For whatever reasons
Aston Martin deemed it necessary to build such a model, be it emissions regulations, demand from brand loyalists for an urban commuter, or a desperate grab for new customers, the new Cygnet is available for order in Europe now and could be
on U.S. roads by as early as next year.
In fact, Aston Martin has announced today that production of the Cygnet will start in April and that the company is now focused on expanding market availability beyond Europe by 2012. Additionally, to celebrate today’s production announcement, Aston Martin has also unveiled two limited edition Cygnets.
The two Cygnet ‘Launch Edition’ models; White and Black, are available with either standard manual or optional CVT automated transmission and each will be produced for a strictly limited time.
As their names suggest, one is decked out in a white exterior finish and the other in black. Special features include chrome trim, leather seats with Alcantara inserts, and a bespoke Bill Amberg five-piece luggage set.
Aston Martin claims that the new Cygnet has generated high levels of interest from both existing Aston Martin owners and customers new to the brand. The car will initially ship with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine but by late 2013 an all-electric version with a 60 mile range is expected to arrive.

And the "handcrafted in England" thing is because, even though it is obviously based on the iQ, the car will be indeed hand-built at the Gaydon factory in England, like every other Aston.
