2011 Detroit Auto Show: 2012 Honda Civic Concept Live Photos

Follow Nelson

Honda's concepts for the next Civic Coupe and Sedan are out, and their both rather attractive. The concept cars just rolled across the stage in Detroit, and now the official details are out. The two concepts give us the general outline of the 2012 Civic range--the Si Coupe and standard Civic Sedan--but leave some gaps for us to fill as production draws nearer.

You can expect the Civic Coupe to sport a frugal yet fun four-banger, plenty of available options and equipment as well as affordable entry-level trims, and as you can see in these photos, an aggressive new look. The four-door version shares the same basic look, but with a longer roof and a little more seating area--and without the pointier touches of the Si's package.

Powertrain details for the new Civic range remain murky, but  Honda will add its Eco Assist technology. The 2012 Civic marks Eco Assist's first implementation outside of a hybrid in the U.S. The Eco Assist tech is already used in the CR-Z and Insight hybrids. Details on the Si Coupe Concept's powertrain are still in limbo--we expect it to get more power as well as a more aggressive exterior and unique interior--but Honda has announced plans to expand its natural gas-powered Civic GX in the 2012 models.

Official photos of the Coupe and Sedan concepts follow.

  1. Kia makes better-looking cars than Honda now... The end of the world as we know it is here!

  2. Honda did very well on this new Civic in my opinion. I really like it ALOT! The competition will be tight but I still believe Honda will be a leader in this segment.

  3. The Sedan looks great. The Coupe is a little much, but we will see what the final version looks like. To bad they arn't bringing over a hatch.

  4. if at all possible, can you please post a rear quarter shot?

  5. Based on these pics, I really like it. t certainly has more style than the Accord and looks less Saturn-like than the current generation Civic. Wonder if Honda will offer a 5-door hatch version like they offer in the UK?

  6. I really hope that Honda will step up the game with their 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid. Seems to me these will be the cars of the future sooner than later, just look at the Honda CR-Z. Do we know yet if it will share any of the features from the CR-Z? I’m pretty sure it is a lithium battery as well and can get mileage in the 40 range.
Was also wondering about a release date for the 2012 Honda Civic, there is some good discussion over at http://www.civic9forum.com and it seems like it will be a Spring release but wasn’t sure if this was for the Hybrid version also?
