Volkswagen has announced that it has joined forces with a legend in the audio industry, Fender, with which it plans to launch a premium audio system for select 2012 models.

The first model to be equipped with the Fender audio system will be the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta in GLI trim, and will be available this spring. Other models within the Volkswagen lineup, including the upcoming ‘New Mid-size Sedan’ and next-generation New Beetle, will offer the Fender audio system in the fall.

To develop the audio system for Volkswagen, Fender formed a partnership with Panasonic that combined Fender’s 64 years of expertise in sound and sound amplification with Panasonic’s 68 years of experience with mobile audio systems.

There has been more than three years of research, development and tuning in a new, state-of-the-art sound lab, and this has resulted in a nine-speaker system that delivers high-level clarity, regardless of volume.

The system also features proprietary Panasonic speaker technology, which is able to cover the cabin with directional sound from front door speakers that generate imaging beyond the capabilities of traditional speaker designs.  It cuts through the noise and other distractions with front dual voice coil speakers, with extended range for all musical genres.
