With a half-century of car-building experience for both the road and track, the UK's Ginetta Cars continues to strength its position by announcing plans for a brand new model, the G55 sports car, which is scheduled to debut early next year.

Details on the car remain closely held, but the car's first development steps are already underway.

Designed primarily as a race car, although with past models like the G50 there have also been road-going versions, the new G55 is to be unveiled for the first time at the 2011 Autosport International in the UK on January 13.

The only official details released thus far are that the car will feature a 3.7-liter Ford engine developing upwards of 370 horsepower. Drive will be sent to the rear wheels via a Hewland gearbox and to maximize output there will be a cold air induction kit and high-flow exhaust.

The Ginetta G55’s first competition use will be in its own GT Supercup series (formerly the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup) and if successful, the car may even entire the FIA sanctioned GT3 championship.
