Infiniti Essence Concept

Remember the stunning Infiniti Essence concept from last year’s Geneva Motor Show? We bet you wished that a production model with those sexy lines would one day be built. Well soon your wish may come true as latest reports indicate that the next-generation of the G37 will draw heavy influences from the Essence.

According to sources from Japan, the new G37 Coupe, as well as its Sedan and Convertible siblings, will share a resemblance with the Essence. Expect to see the concept’s aggressive stance, pumped wheel guards and sharp surface creases all make it onto the new G37, although slightly toned down.

It’s not just the Essence’s stylish looks that will carry over too. The same sources have also revealed that the hybrid powertrain previewed in the Essence will also feature in the new G37 but like the styling, this too will be toned for production.

While the Essence featured a twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter V-6 matched to an electric motor running on lithium-ion batteries, the new G37 will likely feature a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 and electric motor combo. Note that this is the same hybrid powertrain that will debut in the 2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid next year.

Whatever Infiniti’s designers have in store for the next-generation G37, the car is still several years away and anything could change between now and then.
