Daimler is reportedly in talks with several firms over a deal to form a new partnership to help build a new generation of compact cars. One of these firms is thought to be Renault and according to reports coming out of Germany, the new partnership could be formed as early as mid-2010.

The information was revealed by Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche during a recent interview with German daily Handelsblatt.

Daimler’s luxury car brand, Mercedes-Benz, plans to launch four new compact cars to replace the current A- and B-Class models when they reach the end of their product cycles towards the end of next year.

Both Daimler and Renault have previously admitted to be in talks over a new family of small cars, with Daimler looking for a new range of engines for its models and Renault seeking a low-cost platform for its cars.

  1. That would be very intresting. A Mercedes smaller than a C-Class. One time I went to the Mercedes Service room with my mom to get her 2009 R-Class seviced. They gave us a free loaner car to use in the mean time. The loaner car was a C-Class. It has no leg and head room in it. (Well, compared to an R-Class, obviously!)

  4. Not sure why the B-class never made it stateside. I've seen them in Canada and they look like winners! I think it's only a matter of time before we see inflated gas prices again

  5. But is the B class supposed to compete against the A3/1er ? I thought it was a van not a classic compact car.

  6. Daimler already owned one company who was deeply linked to a partner with extensive experience in small cars from Japan - but Daimler bled the company's bank accounts dry, didn't use any of the resources for small cars arrogantly believing they could do better themselves, broke off relations with the Japanese company entirely, approved sub-standard products for the company and tossed the mummified and broken remains onto the laps of the US Taxpayers.
The company's name was Chrysler and the Japanese partner was Mitsubishi.
Anyone who dares consider doing business w/ Daimler had better keep a close eye on their own wallet.

  7. Hmm, the Germans partnering with the French? Somehow does not seem like a good combination.
@chris, not all Americans are ignorant of the rest of the world, if that's what you're implying. I've known about the A-klasse since the first generation came out (when I was about ten). I always thought it was a neat concept, and recall even a tuned version. From Lorinser I believe. I also seem to recall it was headed to America at one point, but I guess since gas was about 1.99 a gallon, it didn't catch on.

  8. @Chris-I was talking about the cars that came to America. I know that the B Class exists, but it did not come to America.

  9. "I know that the B Class exists, but it did not come to America."
    Agent--
You do know that Canada and Mexico are both located in (North) America, and that the B-Class is sold in both countries?

  10. Parker, I said "America," not "(North) America." Tell me you know one is a contenent, and the other is a country. I understand they both have the word "America" in it.Please, don't try reading between the lines, that don't exsist.
