Justin Timberlake will act as an Audi brand ambassador from next year onwards, with his first task being the promotion of the upcoming A1 premium compact. The entertainer will play the leading role in a new Internet campaign for the A1 to be launched in the spring of 2010.

“Audi has always been at the forefront of engineering and technology,” Timberlake said in an announcement. “I am very excited to be a part of the next evolution conscience with Audi and the A1.”

We’ve already had a taste of what Audi has planned in its promotion of the A1. Earlier this week we saw the release of a new teaser image and video and by the looks of things we could be in store for much more.

  1. Hmmmmmmm!
I think it is a shrewd move by Audi to choose Justin, they'll definatly get more press from it and he will certainly entise more young buyers into looking at the Audi brand.
Plus from what I know of him he seems really into his cars.

  6. Well, guess I won't be purchasing an Audi anytime soon. This ranks right up there with Martina Navratilova and Crocodile Dundee as Subie spokespeople.

  7. Why do people take it so personally whenever someone puts their name behind a manufacturer? If you really like the product the advocates of the product don't matter.

  8. I just think a brand built on german engineering, precision, technical prowess, ergonomics, beauty, blah, blah, blah would choose (since they went with the whole celebrity endorsement thing) someone who is actually innovative. Someone who can stand on their own. Someone who shaped his or her art or craft. N'Sync was the epitome of the contrived entertainment that is so prevelant today. Here sing this, wear that, don't say this and really act like you like that, and we'll sell the stuff.
But then again I'm sure he will attract some younger buyers, hence the A1 campaign.
I guess I have always been attracted to Audi because it was the underdog trying harder than the rest. It has paid off. Now that VW has a corporate policy to be the biggest thing ever, I guess we'll see more marketing and less innovation. It's always the beginning of the downfall. And I just don't want to see that happen to Audi. Kinda weird that I'm selling my 1993 S4. 190000 miles and the best car I've ever owned. Look for it at an Ebay near you!

  9. S_mccarthy and skyline have it right. The A1 is going to be a young person's car so why not go for an image a young person would stand behind. Here in the U.S. there is definitely a good amount of brand snobbery towards the euro's hence these manufacturers dont bring over their smaller and cheaper cars.
An American friend of mine a few years ago bought an MB E-class and drove around like an oil baron. It just about crushed him when he found out in Germany they are sold by the thousands with cloth interiors and used as taxi cabs!!!!!!
These are just cars people!! Funny though how some people feel lesser in life because their brand of choice can be bought by someone who earns less or is not of their "kind".....

  10. "If you really like the product the advocates of the product don't matter."
If that's the case, then why do product manufacturers without fail immediately sever ties with their star-spokespersons whenever the star has their inevitable fall-from-grace?

  11. Straight up. I dont listen to the music but the guy is an entertainer extraordinaire acc. to kids and adults I know. the problem is the difference between justin trendy and Audi staid.Audi's design language is just too plain. one spokesperson and one RS4 do not a brand define. all the plain As and Qs and Ts define it.And yes, the R8 is a phenom but doesnt touch the masses...
