The quality of Hyundai’s vehicles has made leaps and bounds over the past decade, the culmination of which is represented by the automaker’s current Genesis Sedan flagship. The vehicle, after all, managed to take out the prestigious 2009 North American Car of the Year Award at the start of this year despite going on sale just months prior.

It appears the Genesis was not only a favorite at the Detroit Auto Show award event as the handsome four-door has earned more awards than any other vehicle this year. At last count, the Genesis tallied more than 20 top honors from the most prominent media outlets and automotive organizations in North America.

Some of the other titles include awards from the likes of J.D. Power and Associates, Motor Trend, AutoPacific and Cars.com, just to name a few. With success like that, we wonder what the car’s bigger brother, the upcoming Equus luxury sedan, will be able to accomplish when it arrives late next year.

The full list of titles awarded to the 2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan is as follows:
1. 2009 North America Car of the Year

  1. so the koreans bulid a Mercedes clone and then get awarded for doing so ...wow...if it was that easy why didnt someone think of it before.
besides no matter how good the vehicle actually is or how many accolades it garners or press opinion is high, the bage will always remain the same, and will not generate the sales it could have if were some other brand

  3. Please tell me which part of the car is a clone (exact duplicate) of the Benz. More accurate description if the Benz is an inspiration for the Genesis design.

  4. As far as Im concerned... all car makers follow a certain trend that pertains to the aesthetics... So in actuallity they all look somewhat the same these days....

  5. tGazzed - "the which someone" was a tongue in cheek comment as i know full well that Lexus was always a Mercedes clone. Unfortunately sarcasm is lost in the internet blog medium.
saabfan - i think you are kidding yourself if you believe for one second that that Mercedes was influenced by Hyundai, the only reasoning i can find for your comment is that you work for them. The car is pure Mercedes right down to the shape of the grill, lights and bonnet style. no Klingon style ridge line in the middle of the hyundai's grill can disguise this fact.
Phil - nail on the proverbial head. it is true alot of the "new designs" these days are merely a rub of existing designs. Manufacturers are more inclined to play it safe to maximise sales than be far too adventurous and lose those same sales and market cred.
