UK Garage is a specialty vehicle importer located in Italy that has a penchant for modifying cars such as this latest Lotus Exige, which has been given the V8 treatment. Called the Extrema, a nod to the serious modifications undertaken by UK Garage’s engineers, the new package takes the standard Exige and redesigns it almost from the ground up.

Starting with the original Mark I edition of the Exige, UK Garage has created a custom bodykit to resemble the design of the Mark II series, but has also widened the vehicle’s track and stretched the wheelbase 20cm. These modifications were required to install wider tires and a longitudinally-mounted V8 engine.

Customers will be able to pick from several different V8 options, starting with a pair of GM-sourced LS3 V8s developing 420hp and 500hp, respectively, and moving up to a 520hp LS7 and eventually a 638hp supercharged LS9 – the same unit from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar. In its most powerful guise, the Lotus Extrema will accelerate from 0-60mph in just 2.9 seconds, pass 100mph in a little over 7 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 200mph. With a V8 onboard, the Extrema tips the scales at around 970kg.

Other engine options include a turbocharged 2.8L GM V6 good for 350hp, which sees the car weigh in at just 850kg. UK Garage offers an even lighter option in the form of the 750kg Superlight version. This model features a compact V8 engine displacing between 2.6 and 3.4L and outputting between 360 and 450hp.

Manual or sequential gearboxes are available. Other features include a Koni suspension kit with adjustable Ohlins, four-piston AP Racing brakes, a full roll cage, a fire extinguisher, and a video recording system.

Pricing for the kit starts at €66,000 and customers can order a road-legal version as well.

  6. I want a Lotus Exige more than an M3, more than an M5 more than an R8.

With a supercharged LS9 engine I would have it over an F430. It would be the best car ever, going from A-B would be a go-karting experience and I wouldn't car if this was my only car and was uncomfortable...with a flappy paddle semi-auto gearbox I would be in driving heaven.

Dare I say it it might even be better than an Enzo...but probably not.
