Last year it was a 15,000-mile trek through China in a pair of 612 Scagliettis. This year, Ferrari plans to drive two brand new 599 GTB Fioranos on a journey spanning 20,000 miles from Brazil to New York. Starting on August 24, a team consisting of 50 different international journalists will take turns to drive through 16 countries and are scheduled to arrive at New York on November 17.

The cars won’t be completely stock as changes to the underbody and suspension are necessary to allow them to cope with the rough terrain expected during some parts of the journey. Other than that, the cars are the same as regular production models. They both sport the 6.0-liter V-12 dishing out a tasty 620 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and is mated to the electro-actuated six-speed F1 gearbox.

North America accounts for roughly 30 percent of Ferrari’s total sales and feats like this one and the previous China tour help Ferrari build a reputation of reliability as well some interest in the brand–not that they needed any more.
