The first Chinese built car to be sold in the US under the Chrysler umbrella will most likely be a production version of the Dodge Hornet concept pictured above. According to Automotive News, sources close to Chery and its suppliers have confirmed that the new car will be based on the Hornet concept but the final agreement is yet to be signed.

It’s undetermined under which Chrysler brand the car will be sold or when it will first reach US shores, but early reports suggest the new car will be sold wearing Dodge badges and should hit the market by late next year.

Chery is also reported to be building a second model for Chrysler, which will be sold by the American automaker in emerging markets such as South America and Eastern Europe. Labeled the S12, the new small car is roughly the same size as a MINI and will initially be offered to the Chinese market before exports begin sometime next year.
