Following last week’s controversial post about Porsche’s new 997 GT2 lapping the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife in an amazingly low 7 minutes and 32 seconds, comes the latest track time for Lamborghini’s Gallardo Superleggera. At the hands of Lambo test-driver and 2002 Ferrari Challange World Champion Luigi Moccia, the lightened supercar lapped the 22.8km circuit in a brief 7 minutes and 46 seconds.

The results, which were published in Italy’s Auto magazine, confirm the Gallardo Superleggera is quicker around the notorious track than Ferrari’s 599 GTB Fiorano (7:47) and comes close to matching the Pagani Zonda C12 S (7:44).

Other details recorded on the day included the top speed, tested at 309.9km/h, the 0-100km/h time, taking just 3.88 seconds, a 1/4 mile time of 11.9 seconds at 196.4km/h and the 1km test, which took 21.45 seconds at 249.9km/h. The car’s kerb weight was also noted at 1,500kg. Click here to read a review of the amazing car.
