Following last year’s release of the popular 427R Ford Mustang, performance tuner Roush has released a new edition of the same car dubbed the 428R. Set to go on sale through Ford dealers next month, the new 428R will be limited to just 200 examples and, with 435hp and 400lb-ft of torque under the hood, is sure to be a sell-out.

The boost in output comes from a Roush designed supercharger, powder coated in chrome to highlight the engine bay. Other additions include billet radiator and intercooler radiator caps, oil cap, and strut tower caps. The exterior of the car dons a new front fascia, chin spoiler, hood scoop and rear wing. Inside, there are leather sports seats, a short throw shifter plus Roush sill plates and floor mats.

Handling is improved thanks to a custom suspension package, which includes front and rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear sway bars, jounce bumpers and a set of 18in alloy wheels.

Roush will follow up with a new 429R next year, forming a trio that pays homage to the original 427, 428 and 429 engines from Ford’s muscle car past.

  1. Did the numbers represent cubic inches back then? Kind of funny to add 1 cubic inch each time. The ultimate in one-upsmanship. :)

    Cool car, though.

  2. From the front it looks like the previous Scion xB.

In case you're wondering I don't mean that kindly.

  4. I work at a ford dealership and get to drive them things all the time. They may look awesome, but they drive even better than they look.
