Production of Ford’s GT supercar may have come to end but there are still a number of tuners around the world developing performance upgrades and styling tweaks for the retro-styled model. The latest kit is form UK-based Avro Motor Cars, which has joined forces with Roush Technologies to develop the limited edition 720 Mirage GT.
Only ten 720 Mirage GTs are planned for production, each packing a host of exclusive details including new sill plates and side decals, engine and mechanical upgrades and a unique numbered plaque. The Avro cars are easily recognizable by their missing rear bumpers, which have been removed in the effort to save weight.
Mechanical work was handled by Roush Technologies, and includes a new polished Whipple supercharger, Accufab throttle body and inlet sleeve, Accufab X pipe exhaust system with ceramic-coated tips and a Mafia MAF sensor and transmission breather catch tank. The end result is an output of 720hp at 6,950rpm and 815Nm (627lb.ft.) of torque at 4,800rpm. The car is also derestricted, giving a top speed capability in excess of 220mph (354km/h).
The running gear on the Avro 720 Mirage has also been upgraded to match the boost in power. The front and rear track is 5mm wider than the standard car. The front brakes use AP Racing 6-pot front calipers with Stillen drilled and slotted rotors. The suspension has been lowered by 25mm and is uprated to include KW Variant 3 fully adjustable coil-over system.
