The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro may just have landed but it’s going to have some tough competition out of the blocks thanks to the Ford Motor Company’s [NYSE:F] Mustang Shelby GT350. The bowtie brand doesn’t have a direct competitor for the Ford just yet, but anyone looking at a loaded Camaro SS will no doubt wonder what the track-focused Mustang is like behind the wheel.

We now have a taste thanks to this video from YouTube channel TheDriver. It shows what’s likely to be a pre-production Shelby GT350 starting up and revving. Be sure to keep watching as it’s towards the end of the video where the real action starts.

Those sweet sounds you’re hearing is a bespoke 5.2-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crank. Ford is yet to confirm final numbers but we hear the engine may be developing in excess of 520 horsepower in the Shelby GT350. It will work together with a host of other upgrades including some serious chassis mods to make this one of the best handling Mustangs built by the factory. Of course, there’s an even more potent Shelby 350R headed to showrooms as well.

Both cars are being introduced for the 2015 model year, though just 137 of these will be built to honor the original 1965 Shelby GT350 built by Shelby American. Once this initial batch of cars is built, Ford will switch over to 2016 models that will be built and sold in higher volumes. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet but starting figures could come in at around $53k.
