McLaren this week revealed the all-important powertrain details for its upcoming P1 supercar, the spiritual successor to the legendary F1, a car that to this day remains the fastest naturally aspirated production car the world has ever seen.

The P1 travels a very different route for its performance, adopting a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine and hybrid drive system.

Yes, the P1 is a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid to be exact. However, with a power rating of 903 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque, we’re sure few are complaining.

Along with revealing the P1’s powertrain specs, McLaren also released more images of its supercar in testing, with this particular shot showing the supercar in full attack mode.

That extendable rear wing is part of the car’s Drag Reduction System. At the push of a button on the steering wheel, the driver will be able to reduce the amount of drag--up to 23 percent--on the rear wing.

This is similar to the Drag Reduction System used in Formula One, though instead of raising or lowering its wing, the P1’s mechanism simply adjusts the angle of attack.

By using the Drag Reduction System, McLaren says the P1 will be quicker. Of course, the system immediately deactivates when the button is released, or if the driver touches the brake pedal.

In addition to this photo, McLaren has also released images of the P1’s new V-8 engine and a cross-section of the car showing its V-8 engine, electric motor and lithium-ion battery array.

We don’t have long until the P1’s reveal, as its world debut is scheduled for March 5 at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

General Motors’ Australian division Holden also this week unveiled its handsome VF Commodore Sportwagon and Ute. Though we’re unlikely to ever see the Ute offered for sale in the U.S., GM North America president and former Holden boss Mark Reuss said the wagon is a possibility.

It’s seen here undergoing final testing ahead of its world debut, which is also scheduled for the Geneva Motor Show next month. We simply love the curves of the latest 911, and the performance package of the GT3 model is hard to beat, especially now that it’s coming with the automaker’s brilliant PDK transmission.

Ford may have stopped selling big and brawny rear-wheel-drive sedans in the U.S. with the demise of its Panther platform, but in Australia the Blue Oval still sells just this type of car, and they’re even offered with supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engines matched to six-speed manual transmissions. One of them is pictured here, the FPV Falcon GT RSpec, which offers up 450 horsepower and will accelerate to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds or less.

This prototype Saab 9-3 is a sad reminder of just how close Saab, under the ownership of Swedish Automobile (now Spyker), came to building a new generation of Saab cars devoid of any link with former owner General Motors. The car was to be based on Saab’s own Phoenix platform and its styling was done by none other than Jason Castriota.

That's it for this week. And if for some reason you aren't already following Motor Authority, we highly recommend you look us up on Twitter and Facebook after you subscribe to our YouTube channel.
