The first episode of season 19 of Top Gear aired overnight, and not only were viewers treated with the usual antics of the show's hosts, but a new record was set at the Top Gear Test Track.

That record was set by the Pagani Huayra supercar, whose time of 1:13.8 is the now the fastest set by a production car around the famous track.

Pagani’s own Zonda R managed to lap the 1.75-mile track in just 1:08.5, and a Ferrari FXX piloted by none other than Michael Schumacher did it in 1:10.7, but neither of these can be considered anywhere near street legal.

The Huayra’s new time is stupidly fast when you consider that it’s 1.3 seconds faster than the time set by the stripped-out Ariel Atom V8 (1:15.1) and 2.4 seconds faster than that of the McLaren MP4-12C (1:16.2), which was extensively tested at the Top Gear track during its development. Other cars slower than the Pagani include the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4.

To achieve this feat, the Huayra utilizes a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 engine developed by AMG. Peak output of 700 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque is channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automated manual gearbox, and hustles the Huayra to 60 mph from rest in just 3.2 seconds. Top speed is a claimed 235 mph.

Pagani is on track to start Huayra deliveries in the U.S. this summer, with pricing estimated to start at roughly $1.4 million. By then, it may not be the fastest car around the Top Gear track, however, as either of three new supercars on the horizon could potentially surpass it. They include the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari F150 Enzo successor.
