The new 2012 Buick Verano was first revealed with GM’s familiar Ecotec 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission and delivering a reasonable--albeit a little underwhelming--177 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.

Since that initial reveal of the car, however, we’ve known that a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine would eventually be offered. Now, by way of an alleged leaked brochure, we have new details concerning the new turbo mill.

First and foremost the brochure reveals that the new engine destined for the Verano will output upwards of 250 horsepower. It will be combined with a refined chassis and promise 0-60 mph acceleration of just 6.5 seconds. The 2.4-liter naturally aspirated Verano takes 8.0 seconds to cover the same sprint.

This same engine and 250 horsepower output is also expected to filter across to the Buick Regal line, which means the 255 horsepower Buick Regal GS will almost certainly be given a boost in power.

This is something Buick fans have been clamoring for ever since the Regal GS was first announced. The car’s European cousin, the Opel Insignia OPC, comes with a 325 horsepower turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 engine, so perhaps our Buick Regal GS will finally get the heart transplant it should have had from the start.

Unfortunately, these engine changes aren’t expected to trickle in until the 2013 model year.
