Caterham's range of ultra-light track cars have been extremely popular amongst driving enthusiasts in the UK and certain other markets such as Italy, Japan and the U.S., and for good reason. The cars represent a much more simplistic approach to racing, with a no nonsense design and purity that most modern track cars could never emulate.

One of Caterham’s key attributes is the adoption of the Lotus Seven chassis, a simple, lightweight two-seater open-top design that’s been improved upon and fine tuned since the 1950s. However, progress must take place and a new model is now in the works at Caterham, one that remains true to the lightweight, minimalist DNA of the legendary Seven and improves on it.

Caterham plans to unveil its new model at next month's 2011 Autosport International Show in the UK.

No details have been released except that the car will be powered by a “next-generation” Caterham engine and that it “will provide a logical expansion to the company's racing and track day portfolio”.

The 2011 Autosport International Show kicks off on January 13 in Birmingham in the UK.
