You’ve already seen the Tesla Motors [NSDQ:NSDQ] Model S go up against the world’s top supercars.
Now it’s been pitted against a Boeing 737.
We know this isn’t a serious race but just couldn’t resist watching the svelte sedan, in this case the P90D performance flagship, going up against a commercial jet.
The stunt took place at Avalon Airport, just outside Melbourne, Australia. It was organized by Tesla and local airline Qantas as a promotional stunt to highlight the two technical marvels.
The Tesla features an electric motor at the front axle delivering a peak 259 horsepower and another at the rear delivering 503 hp at its peak. With its available Ludicrous mode, the car will rocket to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and pass the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds, making it the quickest four-door car in production. Meanwhile, the 737 has a pair of jet engines delivering 52,000 pounds of thrust.
The clear early winner on the ground is the Tesla, which is just overtaken when the Boeing majestically lifts into the air. Both travelled neck and neck as the 737 reached its take-off speed of 140 knots (161 mph) and the Tesla reached its max at around 155 mph.
