Subaru's compact sedan and hatchback lineup is all new for 2017, adding style and substance inside and out.

Although it remains true to Subaru's values by offering standard all-wheel-drive and a more sport-oriented driving experience, the Impreza grows up stylistically with a more refined appearance outside and a vastly upgraded interior inside.

Both sedan and five-door hatchback variants will again be on offer, both of which will come standard with a manual gearbox and offer an optional continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All Imprezas ride on a new, modular platform that's expected to underpin other Subarus in the future.

The Impreza's 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder sees a 4 horsepower bump to 152. Other engine specs, including torque and fuel economy, will be announced closer to its on-sale date late this year.

A new infotainment system will come with an available 8-inch display with TomTom maps for the navigation. An optional Harman Kardon audio system will be offered as well. These will combine with uprated materials to make the interior a major improvement over its predecessor.

The 2017 Subaru Impreza will be available in 2.0i, 2.0i Premium (the volume model), 2.0i Sport, and 2.0i Limited trim levels. The Sport trim level becomes more than just an appearance package for 2017, adding such goodies as 18-inch alloy wheels and Active Torque Vectoring, in addition to unique styling goodies inside and out.

The automaker's vaunted EyeSight collision avoidance system will return with its adaptive cruise control, automatic pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assistance functions. New steering responsive headlamps and automatic high beams will be optionally available, as will rear automatic braking that applies the brakes if an obstacle is detected when the car is baking up.
