Just when you think one of its cars is already at the limit of performance, Ferrari somehow manages to push the envelope even closer to the edge, always through the use of advanced technology. Case in point is the new F12 tdf, which is derived from the F12 Berlinetta and currently Ferrari’s fastest ever road car after the LaFerrari flagship.

Key to its performance boost is its engine. The 6.3-liter V-12 is the second most powerful naturally aspirated engine in production thanks to its rating of 770 horsepower. The most powerful is the V-12 in the LaFerrari, which on its own produces 789 hp and as much as 950 hp when combined with a hybrid system.
In this video, we see some of the modifications that help lift output of the F12 tdf over the standard F12’s 730 hp. They include new mechanical tappets and variable-geometry intake trumpets similar to those used in Formula One to help boost volumetric efficiency at high revs.

The F12 tdf’s torque is also improved, rising to 520 pound-feet over the 508 lb-ft of the standard F12. Incredibly, as much as 80 percent of this figure is produced from as little as 2,500 rpm, resulting in strong acceleration all the way up to the car 8,900-rpm cutoff.
