The Acura NSX has been a concept car in progress for a long time. Here at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the wait may finally be over. This, according to Acura, is the production-ready 2016 Acura NSX.

It’s been 25 long years since the first NSX was introduced, and this will be its replacement. You might not be able to tell much from the last NSX concept Acura showed here in Detroit, but there are slight differences in what Acura calls the NSX's new "Interwoven Dynamic design.”

Whatever you call it, the new NSX is a sharp, fluid piece of work, with jeweled LED headlights and a low, wide stance. It just looks fast.

The interior focuses on driver control, visibility, and packaging. It feels modern, futuristic, yet familiar all at the same time. It wears a hand-crafted leather dashboard, soft-touch materials, and lots of exposed aluminum. The gauge cluster features a TFT that responds to what Acura calls the driver-selectable Integrated Dynamics System.

Maybe the biggest styling statements are the massive side intakes that feed air to the NSX's heart. The twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine isn't the whole story, though. There are three electric motors embedded in the drivetrain. One is attached to the nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox at the rear axle; the other two work with the front axles to vector power to individual front wheels. The sum of it all? An all-wheel-drive hybrid supercar.

Even after all these years, Acura’s still coy about power and performance figures, but the details are guaranteed to dribble out soon. The NSX goes on sale this summer, and deliveries begin later in the year.
