These are the first photos of a prototype for an updated Mazda CX-5, which we’re expecting to go on sale in the fall of 2015, as a 2016 model.

Being a mid-cycle update, the changes won’t be too dramatic, with the camouflage gear on this prototype likely to be masking only a revised bumper and grille design and new graphics in the lights. We can also see new turn signals located in the side mirror caps.

There’s no word yet on any powertrain updates. The current model, on sale since the 2013 model year, has two engines to choose from, both of them four-cylinder units. One displaces 2.0 liters and is good for 155 horsepower, and the other is a 2.5-liter unit good for 184 hp.

For the interior, it’s possible we’ll see the latest Mazda Connect interface made available.

Look for a reveal of the 2016 Mazda CX-5 later this year, possibly at November’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
