Ford’s Australian division is working on a final update for its Falcon sedan before production of the car and its ute and SUV derivatives finally comes to an end in 2016. We’re already spotted a prototype for the updated Falcon sedan, and been treated to a couple of teasers, but now we have a new video previewing the high-performance XR8 variant—and it reveals plenty of details.

Several generations of the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Falcon have had XR8 variants in the past, with all of them coming with naturally aspirated V-8 engines. This time, however, the XR8 is expected to benefit from the supercharged version of the 5.0-liter ‘Coyote’ V-8 fitted to the FPV GT models that cease production this year.

In the new teaser video, we can see the overall proportions of the car, its new headlight design, new grille and new wheels. The updates to the Falcon is expected to see the current model receive new front and rear sections that resemble those on the Ford Fusion sedan sold here in the States. The exterior of this XR8 variant will be differentiated by unique bumpers and wheels plus a sport exhaust system.

Peak output from the car is expected to be 450 horsepower, meaning the same spec as the previous FPV GT models. Drive will go to the rear wheels only, via a standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic.

A debut for the updated Falcon and the XR8 will take place later this year. Production of the cars will only last two years, and sales will be limited to the Australian and New Zealand markets.
