The new special edition makes its debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20, as well as the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, whose opening day coincides with that of the show in L.A. Full details on the car will be released as we approach its respective auto show debuts, but Mercedes has confirmed that only 350 examples will be built (we’re assuming that includes both gullwing and convertible bodystyles).
There’s no extra power on tap, but it’s not like the car’s 6.2-liter V-8 engine is lacking in this department. This means output should equal the 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of the current SLS AMG GT.

The car also gets a few new items, such as a carbon fiber hood and splitter, a new rear wing, new brakes and revised front bumper--it appears the SLS AMG GT Final Edition is the mystery model AMG has been teasing on its Facebook page. The side mirror housing also appears to be dressed in carbon and the light surrounds are darkened, adding yet another aggressive touch to an already mean-looking car.

Given the SLS AMG’s limited run (the car was introduced only four years ago), we’re sure it will become a collector’s item in years to come, just like the original 300SL. The launch of the SLS AMG GT Final Edition represents the last opportunity for customers to order a new SLS AMG; the good news is that we won’t have to wait another half century to see a new gullwing wearing the Three Pointed Star, according to AMG's outgoing boss.
Making its debut alongside the SLS AMG GT Final Edition will be the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, which you can read about here. Stay tuned for our full live coverage from both shows, and keep up to date via our dedicated L.A. and Tokyo show hubs.
