Now that the first examples of the McLaren P1 have been delivered to their owners, a few videos have cropped up showing what it’s like to be behind the wheel and what the car feels like out on the road. One of the best is from serial supercar spotter Shmee150 who came across a burnt orange example whose owner was having a paint-protecting clear film installed.

Not only does this video give us a close-up look at the new P1, it also shows the start-up procedure and gives us a good taste of the engine noise. We then go for a ride in the passenger seat as the driver gives the gas pedal a few good squirts.

As high-tech as the P1 is, we’re glad it still has a bit of an old-school turbo car sound to it. The P1, of course, is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 engine that is paired with an advanced hybrid drive system.

Delivering a combined output of 903 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque, the drivetrain will accelerate the P1 to 62 mph from rest in just 2.8 seconds, see it pass 124 mph in 6.8 seconds and rocket it all the way to a governed top speed of 217 mph. When it comes time to stop, the P1 needs just 99 feet (2.9 seconds) to cease from 62 mph.

Only 375 examples will be built, and one will be heading to the garage of Jay Leno, who no doubt will showcase it on an episode of his eponymous web series. In the meantime, read up on more P1 news by clicking here.
