We've spent a lot of time behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG--back when it was a new gullwing, then as a roadster, when it underwent its mid-cycle refresh as the SLS AMG GT, and even for a spin in the battery-powered, half-a-million-dollar-pricetagged SLS AMG GT Electric Drive.

So what to do when a gorgeous blond example with a quilted brown leather interior shows up for the first truly great weather weekend? Joy ride.

We took off for a quick 500-mile-plus roundtrip to a favorite spot on the Gulf Coast and on purpose, we spent as little time worrying about a first-drive post as possible. Instead, we took to the new-media airwaves--Twitter and Instagram and Facebook--and posted from the waypoints along the road from Florida to Atlanta, via rural southeast Alabama.

We also entertained your questions along the way, and finally came up with some answers when we could post safely. In short, we do prefer the roadster to the gullwing--if only because the chance of banging your head against the doors is almost nil. The 0-60 mph time? We didn't jump into Racestart mode after a nail in the tire tread was plugged, but we've seen 3.7 seconds on the AMG-programmed screen. Just saying.

As for the more esoteric questions, we think Heaven is a place on earth;  the SLS doesn't come with tacos; and yes, it comes in many other colors, but why deny how awesome it looks in this pricey, glistening white?

We'll be posting more of these short Joy Rides as we chronicle our social-media posts from first drives and follow-ups. Follow them at the Joy Rides tag, and follow Motor Authority on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ to make sure you don't miss a single one.
