Though it might not immediately pop to mind the way some German and even American sport sedans do when you're thinking of a fast, luxurious, relatively affordable ride, the Volvo S60 has long been one of our favorites. It's not the fastest, but it's one of the best all-arounders on the market.

For 2014, the S60 gets some enhancements to make it even better. Though they're subtle, including a tweaked front end, new interior trim options, and Volvo's Sensus Connected Touch infotainment system, the changes help keep the S60 fresh and current.

For our money, though, you can't go wrong with either the 300-horsepower turbocharged T6 or the 325-horsepower, 354-pound-feet R Design model--both are terrific fun, while staying comfortable and quiet around town.

Sure, they're not as edgy or sharp in dynamics as some alternatives, but unless you're a track regular, the quick-but-laid-back S60 might just strike a better balance.
