Backing that up is a quattro all-wheel drive system with an available sport differential and optional Active Suspension Damping, ensuring that the RS5 sticks to pavement like peanut butter to the roof of a dog’s mouth, regardless of whether that pavement is wet or dry.
We’ve known that a convertible version was in the works, as a cleverly disguised RS5 Cabriolet was spotted near the Nürburgring last fall. Now comes word via Car and Driver that the topless RS5 will be coming to this side of the Atlantic, too.
At least it’s likely that the RS5 Cabriolet will land on these shores, as Audi has taken steps to certify and list the vehicle with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). That’s a necessary milestone to sell vehicles here (in California, anyway), but it doesn’t guarantee that all listed models will indeed be imported.
Given Audi’s intent to rule the luxury automotive landscape in the coming years, we’d call it highly unlikely that Audi would file the CARB paperwork unless it intended to bring in the RS5 Cabriolet. There are no guarantees, we suppose, but we’d label this one as a pretty sure bet.
