Bugatti’s Veyron Super Sport may be the current land speed record holder for a production car, but it may not hold that title for long as there are at least two other supercars just around the corner that just may have what it takes to dethrone the Bugatti.

One is the Jason Castriota designed Tuatara from America’s own SSC, and the other is the Koenigsegg Agera R, which has just been updated and is now even faster than before.

Making its world debut this week at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the 2013 Agera R has an official power rating of no less than 1,160 horsepower when running on E85 pump gas. That’s a whole 25 percent more horsepower than last year’s Agera R, which is made possible thanks to a new engine management system and a 300-rpm higher.

Weight has also been reduced on last year’s model, with one element in particular, a world-first hollow carbon fiber wheel set helping to shave 45 pounds from the latest Agera R’s curb weight.

How fast is the Agera R? Well, according to Koenigsegg it’s capable of reaching a top speed of 273 mph, 5 mph faster than the fastest Veyron.
