IPL, short for Infiniti Performance Line, is Infiniti’s new performance branding, similar to Audi’s S range but not an independently run tuner like BMW M, Mercedes-Benz AMG or Audi quattro.
Key features of the new IPL G Convertible include special aerodynamic styling pieces, a tuned 3.7-liter V-6 engine, exhaust and suspension upgrades, unique 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and full leather trim.
As a result of both the exhaust system and engine tuning, which included some recalibration of the air-fuel mixture and ignition timing, the IPL G Convertible generates 343 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque--an increase of 18 horsepower and 6 pound-feet over non-IPL models. The engine is matched to an electronically controlled seven-speed automatic transmission with a downshift rev-matching feature and magnesium paddle shifters when used in pseudo manual mode.
Uprated brakes also feature, which include four-piston calipers and 14-inch discs up front and two-piston calipers and 13.8-inch discs in the rear.
For the suspension, front spring rates have been increased 14 percent over the G Convertible Sport model and rear spring rates increased 4 percent. Front stabilizer spring rates have been increased 6 percent over the G Convertible Sport model and rear stabilizer spring rates increased 125 percent. Shock tuning has also been adjusted and incorporates an all-new HF-type shock.
Standard luxury appointments include full leather trim with embroidered IPL logos, aluminum pedals, a 13-speaker Bose stereo, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation with real-time traffic and weather information.
