In its barrage of five releases at this week's 2011 SEMA show, Mazda introduced the Mazda5 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (MRLS) Support Vehicle. You gotta' love auto names so long they make complete headlines by themselves.

As Mazda admits, the Mazda5 may be an optimal people mover, but it's not exactly the first vehicle that comes to mind when you think "racetrack." But what is SEMA if not a show to break down the barriers of what a given vehicle can and cannot be?

So Mazda proves that "mini-MPVs can go racing, too" by adding lowering springs with height-adjustable perches that can adjust for a slew of performance situations.

Since a van with lowering springs still doesn't yell "race track," Mazda adds some visual elements including 19-inch RX-8 R3-spec forged aluminum wheels in flat-black, exterior Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca graphics and orange highlights.

In the end, Mazda proves that, with enough work, its minivan really can convey a sense of racing. No junior high schooler need be embarrassed to roll up to school in this particular MPV.

Other Mazda SEMA concepts include the MX-5 Spyder and Turbo2.
