In recent years, Nissan and Apple have gone together like macaroni and cheese.

The Japanese carmaker was one of the first to launch an iPhone app and the late Steve Jobs even used Nissan's Leaf to demonstrate the iAd serviced when it was launched last year.

Nissan's boffins have been hard at work once more, this time developing the Nissan Global App, an application for the Apple iPad that allows users all around the world to access news on the company, information and content about its advanced technologies.

The app features three main sections. The first is for Latest News, displaying information from Nissan's sites all around the world and incorporating videos and text from social media channels like Twitter and Facebook.

A map screen lets users access information by geographical region, and finally the Explorer function displays topics being discussed among Nissan customers and information on the company. Users can type in a keyword to be taken straight to the relevant section.

The app is available free on the App Store right now, and an iPhone version is set to follow shortly.
