The Sesto Elemento concept car unveiled back at September’s 2010 Paris Auto Show may not have been the preview of the Murcielago replacement that we had all been hoping for but it was enough to get our heart rate jumping, even if only a concept.

Well, that last part may not be entirely true as the brand’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, has hinted that the Sesto Elemento may go into limited production as a track only special.

“We are testing the Sesto Elemento at the moment and if it all goes well then we could look at a limited production run,” Winkelmann revealed to Autocar during a recent interview. “But it would not be homologated because there are complications with things like airbags. It would be for track use only.”

Such a possibility does not seem so farfetched considering the concept car is based around the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera platform. The only major difference is the Sesto Elemento is constructed from a new material called forged carbon, which helps keep its weight down to less than 2,200 pounds. Power output from the LP570-4’s 5.2-liter V-10 unchanged, which means it comes in at 570 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.

The light body and muscular powertrain combine for a power-to-weight ratio of 3.86 lb/hp, which Lamborghini predicts would slingshot the Sesto to 60 mph in under 2.5 seconds--an acceleration figure roughly equal to that of the Bugatti Veyron, and nearly a half-second quicker than today's Porsche 911 Turbo.
