The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show is in full swing, and one of Mazda's main contributions to the pandemonium is the Troy Lee Designs Mazda6. Featuring a custom iridescent paint job by PPG and a race-inspired design, the car shows the tuning potential in the Mazda6 as it hits U.S. streets.

Redesigned specifically for the North American market for the 2009 model year, the Mazda6 is larger, lighter and more efficient than the outgoing model. With the Troy Lee treatment, the SEMA car is also more aggressive and more eye-catching.

Funktion USA bodywork adds an aggressive front fascia with adjustable lip air splitter, while Eibach springs and blacked-out 18" Momo Strike wheels wrapped in Hoosier tires give the car an imposing stance. Cross-drilled rotors and six-piston calipers are part of the Wilwood brake kit that handily hauls the car to a stop.

Also on display at the SEMA show is another Mazda6 by David Green, called the 'Green Energy'. Fitted with 19” Volk Rays wheels and Yokohama tires, the Green Energy show car also features a special black and green paint job by Kustom Shop and Dan Hatch/TMI Custom to bring it all together.

The engine choices in the 2009 Mazda6 include a 3.7L V6 engine rated at 272hp (203kW) or a 2.5L four-cylinder good for 170hp (126kW). These figures are as much as 28% greater than the previous offerings, but also manage to be more fuel efficient thanks to the use of lighter materials in the new car's construction.
