BMW M is out testing a new version of the M2 at the Nürburgring, believed to be a hardcore M2 CS. The car may look like the recently launched M2 Competition but if you look a little closer you'll notice some key differences. For instance, the front fascia sports an additional lip spoiler lifted out of the M Performance parts catalog. There's also a trunk lid spoiler that matches the design used on the BMW M4 CS. Also borrowed from the M4 CS are this M2 tester's wheel design and massive carbon-ceramic brake rotors. No doubt the car is also wearing a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2...

More details on the BMW M2 CS

BMW in the not too distant past was known as the maker of the Ultimate Driving Machine, but the famous slogan doesn't sit too well with the automaker today—though thankfully there are still some exceptions. BMW certainly churns out its share of segment busting niche fillers that aren't fit to...

  • Lightweight creates BMW M2 convertible

BMW does not offer the wonderful M2 as a convertible, but that hasn't stopped a German company by the name of Lightweight from modding the standard convertible into something comparable. With some modifications and M2 parts, Lightweight will transform a standard 2-Series convertible into a drop-top track weapon. To start, the power figure actually outdoes the M2 and M2 Competition. After the German tuner works its magic, power surges to 422 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The standard M2 makes 365 hp, while the M2 Competition produces 405 hp. Lightweight didn't fully detail the...

2019 BMW M2 Competition spy video

The BMW M2 is a Motor Authority favorite. The car’s powerful engine, razor-sharp handling and rear-wheel-drive layout ticks all the right boxes. Soon, though, an even better version will be thrown our way. BMW has been testing a more potent M2 for the good part of a year. Previously thought...

  • 2018 BMW 2-Series

The 2-Series is one of our favorite cars in the BMW lineup. In fact, the high-performance M2 variant was voted Motor Authority’s Best Car to Buy 2017. It’s mostly because the car reminds us of BMWs of old, where rear-wheel drive, inline-6s and manual transmissions ruled. Yes, the 2-Series is breath of fresh air at a time when BMW seems to be focused on filling every niche possible, even if it means launching front-wheel-drive minivans. The complete range, including the M2, has just been updated, but the changes are relatively minor as the 2-Series already received a round of...

  • BMW M2 vs. Focus RS

Being low man on the totem pole isn't always so bad. Two of our finalists for the Motor Authority Best Car To Buy 2017 award, the 2016 BMW M2 and 2016 Ford Focus RS, started life at or near the bottom of their respective lineups. The Ford Focus’ platform dates back to 2011. It’s a front-wheel-drive compact built mainly for economy buyers--though with its firm, responsive tuning, we've always liked the way the Focus handles. The BMW 2-Series is the German company's entry-level product here. Its rear-wheel-drive layout gives it a stronger basis for a more sporty character, but it's...

BMW built a fearsome reputation for speed with its M cars. But you're forgiven if the last generation of Ms left you a little wanting. At Motor Authority we like cars that are fun to drive fast, so we stand up and take notice when BMW releases a new M model. M cars have defined engaged driving excitement for ages, but recent examples have become a little too digital for our tastes. That’s not the case with the new BMW M2...
