BMW has just introduced a complete redesign for its 5-Series, though to the casual observer the differences between the new car and its predecessor will be hard to spot. It appears the issue has not gone completely unnoticed at BMW as the automaker has released a video outlining the stylistic differences between the two—inside and out. Of course, those in the know understand that the redesigned 5-Series is superior to its predecessor in virtually every quantifiable way. For example, the car’s M550i M Performance model already out-accelerates the last M5! Most of the benefits are...

2018 BMW 5-Series preview
BMW’s redesigned 5-Series was a late arrival for the 2017 model year. That’s why the automaker has already announced the 2018 5-Series which sees the lineup expanded with plug-in and performance-oriented models. Look hard. You'll need to focus to spot the differences between the...

2017 BMW 5-Series first drive review: playing the middle
BMW’s middle child has always had identity issues. Iterations of the 5er have had their moments, but it’s always worn hand-me-downs from the 7-Series and, quite frankly, we would’ve rather played with the 3-Series on a Saturday afternoon. You can imagine how hard this 2017 BMW...

BMW today showed its latest green model for the U.S., the 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid. It's part of the newly redesigned 5-Series lineup. The 530e is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, which makes 180 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque, mated to an electric motor with 95 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque of its own. Total system output is 248 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and BMW says the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Rear and...

BMW is in the final stages of development of a new M5 and we hear the car will be unlike any of its predecessors. That’s because the car will be coming with an all-wheel-drive system, which was confirmed by M boss Frank van Meel in 2015. But to appease more traditional buyers that prefer the...

BMW Films returns with Clive Owen, 2017 5-Series
If you've never heard of the BMW Films series, you need to get off the computer and go ask your parents to revoke your Internet privileges. It was in 2001, well before the days of YouTube and online streaming, BMW teamed up with some top talent to produce a series of short films. There were eight...

2018 BMW Alpina B5 Touring spy shots
BMW’s M division no longer builds the M5 Touring but there’s a company with close links to the German automaker that’s happy to build you a wild wagon based on the 5-Series platform. The company is Alpina, which is currently working on a new B5 based on the recently revealed...

There’s a new 5-Series, and that means we will soon see a new B5 from semi-official BMW tuner Alpina. A prototype for the car has been spotted testing ahead of a likely debut early in 2017. We know this is the B5 and not just another prototype for BMW’s own M5 because of some signature Alpina design cues such as the wide, horizontal intake up front and multi-spoke wheels. The previous B5 was never sold in the United States and there’s a good chance the new one won’t come, either. The reason is competition with the M5 as well as a new M550i xDrive M Performance model...

Is this the face of the new BMW M5?
This may be our best look yet at the high-performance M5 model joining the rest of the seventh-generation BMW 5-Series range in 2017. Two CAD drawings allegedly revealing the front and rear design of the new M5 were obtained by the The Cammed & Tubbed Podcast. They show a design similar to the...

V-8-powered BMW 5-Series is now the M550i xDrive
BMW on Wednesday unveiled a new generation of its 5-Series. Just two powertrain options have been announced for the United States so far, though neither of these will be a V-8. That doesn’t mean the new 5-Series will be without V-8 models. There will be a handful, in fact. The first that we...

An inside look at production of the 2017 BMW 5-Series
BMW on Wednesday took the wraps off its new, seventh-generation 5-Series sedan. The car is lighter, more dynamic and loaded with more tech than its predecessor and should prove a hit when it arrives on the market in the spring of 2017. Production is already underway at BMW’s main plant in...

2017 BMW 5-Series preview
Mercedes-Benz has been launching hit after hit for the past few years, making it hard for rivals, even perennial luxury leader BMW, to keep up. Mercedes has catapulted to the top of the sales charts thanks to a focus on traditional values such as handsome design, plush interiors and stout...

The E39 generation of the BMW 5-Series is one of the all-time great vehicles. It has strong looks, a few great engine options, and it comes from a time when BMW still built cars that could qualify as Ultimate Driving Machines. BMW also built the E39 M5, which was the world's first true super sedan, and in Europe BMW offered the wagon version of that wicked machine. We never got that glorious wagon here in the States, but some delightfully fiendish person has decided to make an even wilder version. The car above is a 1999 BMW 528iT. It's the Touring model of the aforementioned 5-Series, and...

BMW to outsource some 5-Series production to Magna Steyr
BMW is gearing up for the start of production of its seventh-generation 5-Series. Already spied extensively in prototype form, the new sedan and wagon adopt the carbon fiber-infused platform of the larger 7-Series as well as that model’s production line at BMW’s plant in Dingolfing...

Why I sold my 1991 BMW M5
On May 31, a collective gasp bellowed from every soul that knew me: My 1991 BMW M5 went live on Bring A Trailer. The moment I actually saw it hit the collector car classified website I nearly vomited all over my keyboard. Emails, text messages, and phone calls poured in. Was I dying? Deep in debt?...
