Toyota FT-86 Open Concept sketch
Already proven to be a very capable and fun car, the GT 86, or Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ as we know it in the U.S., could benefit greatly from a convertible version. Rumors of just such a car have been brewing almost since the car's launch.
Yes, we know such a car is likely to be heavier and slightly slower than the coupe--but we don't care. There's something special about the feeling you get with the top down, the wind in your face, and the sound of the car--tires, engine, all of it--working in harmony. Roadsters are special cars. Just look at the Mazda MX-5.
Previous reports have indicated that if a convertible version of the GT 86 does come to the U.S., it will only be as a Scion FR-S model, not a Subaru BRZ.
So far, Toyota hasn't released any details on the car, but we'll be on hand to bring you all of the details as they develop, as well as live photos and impressions from the show floor.
