Massive Toyota Recall Includes 245,000 IS, GS Models

Toyota is continuing to have problems with quality—not just in the United States, but globally.

Now, some Lexus GS and IS models, ranging from the 2006 to 2009 model years, are potentially affected by an issue with fuel leaks.

More than 75 incidents have been reported in North America, while an additional 100 or cases have been reported in both Europe and Asia.

For U.S. owners, Lexus models must have their fuel sensors tested by dealerships.

Toyota Rav4 compact SUVs may also be impacted by the recall because of a faulty spare tire carrier, but reports offered conflicting information on whether or not this centered on Japanese-market vehicles, or U.S. exports as well.

While 2011 had seen Toyota Motor Company stock rise after its bitter 2010 year, the specter of more recalls could add another black eye after the unintended acceleration issues that caused more than 18 million vehicles to be recalled worldwide. Class action lawsuits are still pending in the United States over the safety of Toyota vehicles.

In Europe, more than one hundred thousand Toyota Avensis models are being recalled by the automaker; the model name may be little known in the United States, but it has the same underpinnings as the Scion tC.
