Bowing to public demand from wealthy car owners who wish to be seen whilst cruising the strip in their supercars, Mercedes-Benz will start production of the SLR McLaren convertible.

The SLR, which is manufactured at McLaren's headquarters in Woking, England is capable of speeds of up to 207 mph and was recently rated as the fastest car in the United Kingdom.

The new convertible will make an official appearance within the next six months and is expected to remain mechanically the same as the standard coupe.

This means construction with a stiff composite body and a 626-horsepower supercharged V-8. Pricing will be upwards of £350,000 and like most Mercedes convertibles, expect the car to feature a metal folding roof.
