PERFORMANCE CARS

Ferrari 488 Pista

Ferrari 488 Pista

Ferrari 488 Pista: will use the Geneva show to present the hardcore version of its 488 GTB. It's called the 488 Pista, and there are rumors it will be able to lap a track faster than Ferrari's LaFerrari hypercar. We guess Pista, Italian for “track,” really is an appropriate title here. What makes the car's performance so stout is a combination of low weight and high horsepower, together with the automaker's latest motorsport-derived electronic chassis systems and aerodynamics. Powering the car is the familiar 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 now tuned to deliver 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, which incidentally are the same numbers produced by McLaren's 720S.

McLaren Senna in Victory Gray

McLaren Senna: McLaren will also present a track-focused supercar in Geneva, in this case the all-out-extreme Senna. It comes with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 delivering 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, all of which motivates just 2,641 pounds of mass (dry). Distantly related to the 720S, the Senna follows the P1 in terms of performance and in the automaker's series of "Ultimate" cars. And despite being so extreme, you'll still be able to drive a Senna on the streets. Unfortunately, only 500 are being built and they're all sold out.

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Yet another track machine, this one naturally aspirated, will be on show in Geneva. It's the updated version of Porsche's 911 GT3 RS, and it's received tweaks to the styling, inside and out, and yes, there's more power to be had from the familiar 4.0-liter atmo flat-6. The horsepower has been bumped up by 20 horses to a new total of 520 hp and torque up by 8 pound-feet to 346, achieved via an increase in revs to a maximum 9,000 rpm.

Toyota Supra race car concept: Toyota will show a race car concept in Geneva, based on its upcoming MkV Supra sports car. Interestingly, we hear that the race car could be to GTE specifications, which would likely indicate that Toyota plans to enter its new Supra in international endurance competition, namely the World Endurance Championship. The concept will also give us our best look yet at the final design of the new Supra.

Rimac electric supercar: Croatia's Rimac will present the successor to its Concept_One electric supercar in Geneva. What we know is that performance will be up on the Concept_One, which is no small feat considering Rimac's first car comes with a 4-motor electric powertrain provides 1,088 horsepower, or enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 220 mph.

Lamborghini Huracán Performante Spyder: Lamborghini has a Huracán Performante-related debut pegged for the Geneva show, and it's a safe bet the car will be the convertible version that we've seen testing on occasion over the past 12 months. To be called the Huracán Performante Spyder, the car should benefit from all of the same performance upgrades of its coupe sibling and combine this with the standard Huracán Spyder's soft-top roof.

Teaser for Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe debuting at 2018 Geneva auto show

Teaser for Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe debuting at 2018 Geneva auto show

Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe: It was previewed as a thinly veiled concept only at last year's Geneva, but in just a few days we'll see the production version of Mercedes-AMG’s first standalone sedan. Curiously, the Affalterbach tuner is referring to the car as the “GT Coupe,” despite prototypes confirming the car will come with four doors and a rear hatch. Expect a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 nestled under the hood and delivering something approaching 600 hp. Eventually, we should see the V-8 paired with an electric drive system for a combined output approaching 800 horses.

Techrules Ren RS: Chinese startup Techrules shocked us with its Ren supercar at last year's Geneva show. The extended-range electric supercar boasted a central seating position, 1,287 horsepower, and looks designed by none other than famed Giugiaro. At this year's Geneva show, we'll get to see a more hardcore version designed strictly for track use, the Ren RS. There's still a diesel-powered micro-turbine serving as the range-extender, and Techrules says that a full charge of the battery and a full tank of diesel should deliver a range of 727 miles.

LUXURY CARS

Volvo V60: Wagon fans can look forward to a handsome new option this year in the form of the 2019 Volvo V60. It debuts in Geneva and will reach showrooms later this year, at which point it will be joined by a new S60 sedan. The V60 is a dead-ringer for the Volvo V90, which is no bad thing, but it's more than half a foot shorter with nearly three inches chopped between the wheels. It will arrive with two powertrain options and be sourced from Volvo's plant in Torslanda, Sweden.

2019 Audi A6

2019 Audi A6

Audi A6: One of the most anticipated reveals of the Geneva show is Audi's new A6. The German firm has already shown us the design but we're eager for a closer look. While the Audi mid-sizer has always been handsome, the latest generation has a wide, powerful stance that really ups the aggression, and dynamic performance should be up too thanks to a lighter and stiffer platform.

2019 Jaguar I-Pace

2019 Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar I-Pace: Jaguar has managed to beat many of its bigger rivals in bringing an electric car to the market. The vehicle is the I-Pace electric SUV, which Jaguar will be showing for the first time in production trim at next week's Geneva show. The I-Pace will arrive in showrooms later this year boasting a 240-mile range from its 90-kilowatt-hour battery, and a combined output of 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque from two electric motors.

Lexus UX: The Lexus UX concept unveiled at the 2016 Paris auto show is about to spawn its production cousin. We're expecting the UX to be twinned with the Toyota C-HR, which is similar in size to the UX concept car. Rivals will include the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Lincoln MKC and Mercedes-Benz GLA. Lexus hasn't announced the vehicle for the United States but we know the automaker has reserved the UX 250 and UX 250h model designations here.

Volkswagen ID Vizzion concept: Volkswagen will reveal the fourth member of its ID family of electric concept cars in Geneva. The concept is described as a full-size premium sedan, which could indicate that we're looking at a very early preview of the next-generation Phaeton. VW's flagship is set to return towards the end of the decade as an electric car. Interestingly, the ID Vizzion is also fully automated. In fact, it doesn't even have a steering wheel.

Mercedes-Benz EQC: We'll see quite the number of production electric cars from the major automakers. Mercedes will unveil the first electric car from its recently established EQ sub-brand for electrified models, widely thought to be the EQC small electric SUV. Rival luxury brands Audi and Jaguar will also present their first volume electric cars in Geneva. On Audi's stand will be the e-tron SUV while over at Jaguar will sit the I-Pace SUV, detailed above. Both models are due on sale in 2018 while the Mercedes EQC is only due on sale in 2019.

2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 muscles in with 577 horsepower

2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 muscles in with 577 horsepower

Mercedes-AMG G63: If you prefer your SUVs to be a little more old-school, AMG will have a treat for you. The Affalterbach tuner will present its first take on Mercedes' redesigned G-Class. The G-Class is unique in the Mercedes lineup in that half of all models sold are from AMG, with the V-8-powered G63 being the most popular. For the new generation, there's a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.

HK GT concept: Chinese electric car startup Hybrid Kinetic will use the Geneva show to present a concept previewing a potential grand touring coupe. All of HK's concepts shown so far—this will be the fourth—have been styled by Pininfarina, and like the Techrules Ren detailed earlier they have all featured extended-range electric powertrains with micro-turbine range-extenders.
