What's in an acronym? In the case of the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR, it's not just a pretty face and a $126,945 price tag.

As it does with the gutsy Range Rover Sport SVR, Jaguar Land Rover doesn't spare much in the mission to give those letters real meaning.

That meaning: pretty obvious. SVR stands for 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 200 mph for the hardtop model, convertibles just a little slower in both cases.

It takes more than a few enamel badges to spin the F-Type to its highest performance limits yet, though. Here's what spotters will notice.

Better aerodynamics. New wheel arches smooth airflow over the SVR's massive wheels and tires, and cut down on front-end lift, all the better to chase 200 mph. The F-Type SVR also gets a reshaped front bumper and valance, a smoother undertray, and hood louvers to wrap airflow around its body better. At the back, a rear venturi helps quash lift.

A carbon-fiber, active rear wing. It's not just for looks. The SVR's motorized spoiler also reduces rear-end lift, a good thing if you decide to spin it up near that 200-mph limit. It'll deploy at 60 mph in the SVR convertible, at 70 mph in the coupe--and it's always up when the SVR's in Dynamic mode, so long as the car is going more than 15 mph.

Edgier handling. The SVR's suspension gets softer a front anti-roll bar (by about 5 percent) for quicker turn-in, and stiffer rear knuckles for finer camber and toe control, while the AWD and stability-control systems get more playful firmware, with more rear power bias and higher yaw limits.

Carbon-ceramic brakes. A $12,000 option, the new stoppers can haul the SVR down from high speeds more effectively, with less fade, and are about 30 pounds lighter than the steel-brake setup when bundled with the SVR's Pirelli P Zero tires--265/35/ZR-20s in front, 305/30/ZR-20s at the rear.

A brutal exhaust note. The SVR's titanium-alloy exhaust turns the F-Type's raspy howl into an bag of lit fireworks. The SVR-spec exhaust also cuts weight by about 35 pounds.

Carbon fiber frills. From mirror housings to interior trim, Jaguar touches up the F-Type's spectacular body and plush interior with sheets of the woven stuff.

Lots and lots of leather. You can fit the SVR with distinctly patterned quilted seats. There's a $2,500 ask for red leather, and you'll pay $2,500 for a buff- or red-leather headliner.

Oh, right--more power. Jaguar recalibrates the F-Type's supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, giving it the programming profile of its vintage-themed Project 7 concept. Power rises to 575 hp, torque is up to 516 lb-ft, and 0-60 mph drops to 3.5 seconds in coupe form, about 0.4 seconds quicker than the R edition. Power's routed to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic.
