The new R18 will be competing in the LMP1 hybrid category of next year’s World Endurance Championship, where top contenders Audi and Toyota will be hoping to steal the championship crown away from Porsche. Compared to the 2015-spec car, the new one features a body designed to produce more downforce and a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain tuned to deliver improved power and efficiency.

Although Sebring isn’t featured on the calendar (the only American race is at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas), the track’s variety of corners and surface conditions plus year-long warm weather makes it ideal for off-season testing. The first race will be at the United Kingdom’s Silverstone Circuit on April 17.
