Easily the star of this past week’s 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda’s RX-Vision concept is simply begging to be put into production. Unfortunately, the RX-Vision is purely a concept Mazda built to preview a next-generation rotary powertrain the automaker says will eventually be put into a production model. The good news is that the RX-Vision’s styling is likely to have influenced the upcoming production model.

Another red beauty on show in Tokyo was Nissan’s updated Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo concept. Like the Mazda above, this sexy Nissan isn’t destined for production, but it does hint at the styling we can expect on the next-generation GT-R due out around 2018.

Yamaha had a sports car concept on show that was built around the iStream Carbon chassis devised by Gordon Murray Design, the engineering skunk works of famed McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray. The advanced lightweight construction of the Yamaha Sports Ride concept meant the car weighed just 1,653 pounds.

Mercedes-Benz had another concept on show this week that previewed a future where driving will be optional. The concept was called the Vision Tokyo, and it was in the form of a small, self-driving van that Mercedes says would be ideal for "Generation Z", i.e. anyone born after 1995.

Subaru had a special edition WRX STI on show in Tokyo, but sadly the car isn’t destined for sale outside of Japan. It packs a 323-horsepower version of Subaru’s familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four and just 400 are planned for production. That shade of yellow, by the way, is called Sunrise.
